Mine Superintendent

About the role

As the Superintendent Mining you will be responsible for managing the safe operation of all mining activities across the allocated mine site and in line with agreed and planned customer volume and delivery requirements. This role is the key SIMEC mining leader onsite.


Based in Whyalla and reporting into the Manager Mining, the Superintendent Mining will take a lead role in managing mining activities across the allocated mine sites.


Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the team on site, driving the operation to deliver mine plans safely and effectively
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with SIMEC’s policies and procedures as well as ensuring compliance with the relevant legislative requirements
  • Foster a safe work culture environment with a strong focus on rewarding performance and continuous improvement
  • Develop, coach and mentor the team and ensure the appropriate training is provided as needed along with a detailed career plan
  • Manage the subcontractors on site and provide timely and regular updates
  • Lead the team and provide support to run the mine site to an outstanding professional standard and ensure mining activities have adequate resources
  • Support the team to troubleshoot and resolve any technical or safety issues

About your experience

You will be a passionate and committed individual with a strong focus on safety and continuous learning coupled with the ability to deliver on SIMEC’s key business objectives.


You will also have;

  • Tertiary Qualification in Mining Engineering (preferred)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in mining operations
  • Extensive open pit experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build, develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Mine Planning, pit supervision and contractor management experience
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience in commercial reporting and budgeting
