Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey towards becoming a qualified Emergency Services Officer? 

 

As a Trainee Emergency Services Officer (TESO) with Liberty Primary Steel (LPS), you will play a pivotal role in upholding safety and enhancing emergency response readiness at our facility. This position is tailored to provide you with the essential skills, experience, and competency required to excel as an Emergency Response Officer upon completing your Certificate III qualification.

 

The Trainee Emergency Services Officer (TESO) will be supported through theoretical training, practical skills assessments, on the job learning, and mentoring by highly skilled, competent, fit for purpose and qualified Emergency Services Officers

 

This role is fixed term for 18 months.

Roster: Shift: Day and Night shifts. 7 on days, 7 off and seven on nights and so on

Your core responsibilities in this role encompass:

  • Support the Senior Emergency Services Officer to ensure the delivery of prescribed emergency services to agreed operational standards, aligned to the trainee qualification and competency

  • Taking part in job training and following safety protocols for emergency response tasks

  • Assisting with the upkeep of emergency response equipment, vehicles, and PPE

  • Undertaking mandatory training and development (both practical and academic) and maintain self-paced learning development

  • Acquiring and maintaining a thorough knowledge of site, including roadways, buildings, water supply, hazards and related items

  • Becoming skilled in using and caring for advanced firefighting and rescue equipment

  • Handling various incidents effectively and following established guidelines

 

Experience and qualifications

We're looking for someone ready to take on this challenging role and contribute to the safety and emergency response preparedness at Liberty Primary Steel (LPS). To thrive in this role and contribute effectively to the LPS Emergency Response Team, you should possess:

 

  • Essential - drivers licence (car), MR or HR licence desirable

  • Minimum year 11 (Stage 1 SACE)

  • A strong commitment to attaining a Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)

  • Dedication to completing the training program and acquiring the necessary skills

  • Willingness to follow instructions and adhere to safety regulations

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the team and maintaining equipment and vehicles

  • Alignment with the company values and a strong focus on safety

  • The physical fitness required to meet the role's standards and demands

A member of the GFG Alliance group, Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail.
