Tradesperson Fitter

About the role

As a Fitter based at the Whyalla Steelworks, you will be a key member of our integrated maintenance crew, focused on maintaining the reliability and performance of plant equipment through both preventative and reactive maintenance activities.
 

Working collaboratively with technical teams, production, and reliability engineers, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of our assets. With a hands-on approach and a strong commitment to safety and quality, you’ll respond to breakdowns, carry out scheduled maintenance, and contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical systems and processes.
 

Responsibilities include:
 

  • Conduct fault finding and reactive repairs to plant and mechanical equipment to minimise downtime and restore functionality.

  • Complete scheduled maintenance activities, including during planned plant shutdowns.

  • Provide technical support to production, maintenance management, and reliability teams to improve asset performance.

  • Accurately record all maintenance activities in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) – SAP.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.

  • Maintain compliance with safety procedures and work standards, ensuring all tasks are carried out safely and effectively.

  • Assist in planning and executing maintenance strategies to align with operational goals and long-term asset care plans.

Liberty Primary Steel  operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail.
