Technical Buyer

About The Role

Are you a proactive and commercially savvy procurement professional with a passion for deal-making and continuous improvement? We are seeking a Technical Buyer to join our Whyalla operations and play a key role in delivering value through strategic sourcing and supplier engagement.

As a Technical Buyer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement of spares and services that support departmental maintenance strategies, particularly in Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Spares. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant procurement outcomes.

 

About You 

 

•    Proven experience in technical buying or procurement within industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments.
•    Strong negotiation, influencing, and supplier management skills.
•    Ability to think strategically and laterally to solve complex sourcing challenges.
•    High level of business acumen and analytical capability.
•    Passionate about continuous improvement and delivering commercial value.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

•    Deliver departmental strategy for allocated MRO categories, as developed by the Inventory & Procurement Manager.
•    Manage the full procurement lifecycle in alignment with category, portfolio, capital, and business plans.
•    Drive competitive advantage through innovative sourcing, demand management, and technical assessment.
•    Ensure compliance with Onesteel’s Delegation of Authority, Contract Formation and Management, and Sourcing and Procurement policies.
•    Engage with the market and internal stakeholders to balance commercial and operational outcomes.
•    Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
