Senior Regulatory Specialist

About The Role:

Reporting to the OneSteel Regulatory Approvals Manager, based at either our Adelaide or Whyalla site this role will play a key part in securing environmental approvals and permits for both life of mine and growth projects across OneSteel Manufacturing’s mining operations.

 

Working closely with environmental, operations, mine planning and project teams, you will support the delivery of high-quality regulatory submissions while guiding complex projects through relevant approval pathways.

The role will contribute to both existing operations and exciting future growth initiatives across the Middleback Ranges, Ardrossan Dolomite Mine and other regional sites.

 

This is a unique opportunity to join an integrated mining and steelmaking business set for an exciting future and help shape the future of sustainable, low-carbon steel production in Whyalla.

 

For candidates based in Adelaide, regular travel to Whyalla and regional sites (approximately 3 times per month) will be required.

Domestic Relocation included for those residing outside of Whyalla, which includes:

Key Responsiblities:

  • Support environmental approvals and permitting activities for life of mine and growth projects
  • Interpretation and application of environmental legislation, policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare, coordinate and deliver high-quality regulatory approval submissions and supporting documentation, including authoring documents and supervision of subconsultants
  • Commissioning and supervising specialist studies to support environmental approvals.
  • Guide projects through complex environmental and regulatory approval pathways
  • Work closely with environmental, operations, mine planning and project teams across multiple sites
  • Provide technical, practical and strategic environmental advice to support operations, project development and decision-making
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support project approvals and compliance outcomes
  • Support sustainable mining growth and low-emissions steelmaking initiatives across OneSteel Manufacturing operations

About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, ecology or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental approvals and permitting within mining, resources, infrastructure or heavy industry
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and approval processes
  • High standard of technical writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage competing work effectively
  • Experience preparing environmental impact assessments, regulatory submissions and technical reports
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across operational, technical and project environments
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the business
  • Driven, self-motivated and focused on continuous improvement
