Senior Project Manager

About the role

The Senior Project Manger role will be part of the SIMEC Growth Team that is on a path of transforming the mining business into a Green Steel enabling business and developing Major Transformative Projects.

As the Senior Project Manager, you will be accountable for ensuring the mine site has a proactive and resilient HS&E culture and work environment where employees as well as contractors can confidently deliver successful outcomes in a controlled risk environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and manage the resources required to execute the project, including the owners project team resources, budget and outsourced resources and that the team is well supported and kept informed at all times
  • Develop and report key performance indicators for safety, environment, schedule, cost and business benefits
  • Establish, manage, coordinate and administer the projects to ensure the projects are delivered safely within the allocated time frame and financial budgets in order to meet the business and final user requirements
  • Manage the Change Management Process for the project
  • Ensure that any required approvals for administrative and commercial systems are in place to mange contractual right and obligations, technical documentation, account for project expenditure and variations and report progress
  • Oversee the development and implementation of plans and systems to reduce risk exposures
  • Ensure that all projects are compliant with PMO and the business standards and procedures
  • Provide regular and timely feedback on ongoing development pf PMO processes, systems and methodologies
  • Negotiate with the client to collaboratively agree on user Requirements
  • Develop and provide inputs on capital submissions for the budget, schedule and risk management including contracting strategy

About your experience

You will bring along your strong influencing and problem-solving skills to the role. Be flexible in your approach and have excellent attention to detail.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Project Management and Engineering (desirable)
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of either Prince2, PMP, RegPM, CPPM
  • Extensive experience in the mining industry
  • Demonstrated experience in design/operations management and major project management
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Customer/client focused mindset
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills with the ability to effectively engage and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Project management experience on large scale portfolios  and demonstrated success in managing complex projects
  • Excellent time management skills and organizational skills
