Scheduler

About the role

As a Scheduler, you will play a vital role in planning and coordinating the production of steel billets, rail, and structural products to meet customer demand. Reporting to the Head of Integrated Planning, you will be responsible for developing detailed short- to mid-term production schedules that optimise inventory usage, throughput, and delivery performance.
You will work closely with operational, transport, and quality teams to ensure alignment across departments, resolve potential delays, and maintain production continuity.


Your analytical mindset, attention to detail, and collaborative nature will directly contribute to Liberty Primary Steel’s performance, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

 


Key Responsibilities:


•    Prepare accurate, optimised production schedules based on customer orders and business rules.
•    Ensure scheduling aligns with safety standards, quality requirements, and environmental protocols.
•    Monitor day-to-day progress and work collaboratively to address disruptions and re-schedule when required.
•    Coordinate billet train loading plans to align with casting and rolling needs.
•    Support investigations into customer complaints related to non-delivery or delays.
•    Track billet and combi feedstock inventory and ensure timely availability for processing.
•    Incorporate maintenance and trial requirements into scheduling plans to reduce downtime.
•    Work across Steelmaking and Steel Products to balance feed availability with production targets.
•    Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve constraints and improve planning outcomes.

 


Desirable Skills & Competencies:


•    Proven understanding of scheduling processes and manufacturing planning.
•    High attention to detail and accuracy in data tracking and reporting.
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with multiple departments.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and data analysis tools.
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume industrial environment.

About Us

Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen.
