Safety Specialist
About the role
The Safety Specialist (SIMEC Mining) plays a crucial role in driving a shift in safety culture, performance, and achieving operational excellence by influencing, coaching, supporting and working directly with our workers, Leaders, Contracting Partners and the broader mining workforce. Working within the SIMEC mining business at our South Middleback Ranges (SMR) location, you will have exposure to our integrated supply chain that involves that of primary exploration geological activities, mining and associated technical services, Ore Processing, Pelletising and Port (Marine) Operations.
About your experience
Our ideal candidate will have the ability to work in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment with a drive and resourcefulness to recognise, promote and reinforce positive safety behaviour, and support stakeholders articulate pragmatic risk-treatment plans, where required. It is essential that the candidate has the ability to work with people at all levels within the organisation and work autonomously with a structured and risk-based approach.
You will also have the following:
- Tertiary WHS Qualifications or suitable qualifications in relevant discipline (preferable)
- Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Training and Assessment (preferable)
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to engage and influence stakeholders and build effective, meaningful and sustainable working relationships
- Ability to develop, implement and manage health and safety management systems
- Experience in facilitating incident investigations and risk assessments, including the use of incident and risk operating systems for record keeping purposes
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk management, auditing, reporting and investigation requirements
- Strong analytical and decision-making capability, with the ability to assess complex information, solve problems and conduct effective safety audits
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities
- Strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality and handling sensitive information
- Demonstrated planning, coordination and organisational skills to manage tasks and meet deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows operating environments
- Current and valid driver’s licence (essential)
