Safety Specialist

About The Role:

The Safety Specialist contributes to the success of OneSteel Manufacturing through the advice, support and mentoring on the full range of operational and strategic safety issues to the operational workforce inclusive of contracting groups. 


The Safety Specialist will support a safety maturity and improvement culture and demonstrate behaviours consistent with Company values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive operational excellence in safety management practices through proactive engagement, guidance and support
  • Coach operational frontline leaders to ensure compliance with legislative obligations and requirements of the Safety Management System
  • Identify and recommend best practice initiatives to reduce risk, raise safety awareness and improve safe work practices
  • Implement and monitor compliance with safe systems of work through safety engagements, interactions, observations and inspections
  • Support the critical risk and control verification process to ensure all risks are identified and effectively controlled
  • Support frontline leaders with ICAM Investigation process for improved outcomes e.g., identification of quality high level (effective) corrective actions (against casual factors)
  • Drive frontline leadership for improved & timely closeout of events and associated actions to mitigate reoccurrences
  • Educate frontline leadership on risk management and application of effective controls for work tasks

About You:

  • Relevant Health & Safety qualifications with demonstrated industry experience (essential)
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems, best practice standards, and relevant legislation/regulations (essential)
  • Current and valid driver’s licence (essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical and decision-making capability, with the ability to assess complex information, solve problems and conduct effective safety audits
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities
  • Strong understanding of the importance of confidentiality and handling sensitive information
  • Demonstrated planning, coordination and organisational skills to manage tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows operating environments

 

Desirable Skills: 

  • Certified OHS Lead Auditor qualification 
  • ICAM Investigation Facilitator certification with investigation experience 
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, with experience delivering safety training 
  • Certificate in Front Line Management
