At OneSteel Manufacturing Whyalla Steelworks, we’re looking for a motivated Mechanical Reliability Engineer to join our Central Engineering team. This role is central to ensuring safe, efficient operations and driving proactive maintenance strategies that keep our plant running at its best.

About the Role

As a Reliability Engineer, you’ll be responsible for improving equipment performance, reducing downtime, and embedding reliability principles across the site. You’ll work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Condition Monitoring teams to deliver technical insights and practical solutions.
Key aspects of the role include:
•    Analysing asset performance data to identify failure modes and trends
•    Leading root cause investigations and driving defect elimination
•    Developing and optimising maintenance strategies (RCM, FMEA, PM optimisation)
•    Supporting shutdown planning and execution with reliability-driven scopes
•    Influencing capital and maintenance decisions through risk-based recommendations

About You

You’re an Engineer with a passion for reliability and a track record of improving asset performance in heavy industry. You combine technical expertise with strong communication skills and thrive in cross-functional environments.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
•    A tertiary qualification in Engineering and 3–5 years’ reliability experience
•    Hands-on knowledge of RCA, FMEA, RCM, and criticality analysis
•    Ability to interpret condition monitoring data (vibration, thermography, lubrication, NDT)
•    Strong problem-solving skills with a safety-first mindset
•    Proficiency in SAP and MS Office, with the ability to manage competing priorities
