Project Controls Manager Studies
About the role
We are seeking a highly capable Project Controls Manager to lead the integration, performance tracking, and reporting functions across OneSteel Manufacturing’s Growth Portfolio. With large-scale magnetite and green steel projects underway, this is a pivotal leadership role focused on establishing fit-for-purpose systems and processes that drive project delivery from feasibility through to execution.
As part of the Mining Growth division, you will work closely with project teams, contractors, and business functions to ensure cost, schedule, quality, risk, procurement, and document management are integrated and optimised across all stages of the project lifecycle. You’ll play a central role in aligning project controls with broader business systems to enable confident decision-making and ensure compliance with internal and external stakeholders, including federal and state government.
This is a data-led, solution-oriented position for someone who thrives in complex project environments and is passionate about building the systems and capability needed to deliver transformational projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and standardise cost control, scheduling, and risk management practices across a diverse capital portfolio exceeding $1B
- Design and implement a fit for purpose Project Controls environment that considers people, process and systems
- Oversee the integration of procurement, contract, and financial systems into project controls, ensuring alignment with SAP and business requirements
- Ensure project data integrity and document control, supporting transparency and audit-readiness
- Ensure project risk and quality control, tracking actions, and ensuring ongoing compliance
- Oversee the development of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedule forecasts for major studies and projects
- Contribute to portfolio-wide capital expenditure, project status, and readiness for execution
- Partner with engineering, finance, procurement, and external contractors to embed best practice systems and workflows
- Coach and uplift capability in cost engineers, schedulers, and project team members, driving continuous improvement
About You
- A strategic thinker with strong technical knowledge of project systems and a deep understanding of capital delivery frameworks
- Experienced in managing government grant funded and or debt funded infrastructure projects, including compliance reporting
- Skilled at navigating SAP-based project environments, ideally with 10+ years in mining or large-scale industrial settings
- Comfortable working across multifunctional teams and project phases—from early studies to execution readiness
- Passionate about using data to drive decisions, shape systems, and tell the story of project performance
- A natural communicator and collaborator who thrives in fast-paced, high-investment portfolios
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Commerce, or related disciplines
- Project Management certifications (e.g., PMI, AIPM) are highly regarded
- Proven experience leading controls for projects of $1B+ in value
- High-level proficiency in cost engineering, scheduling, and risk platforms
- Deep understanding of project integration principles, SAP WBS, and financial governance
- Exposure to sustainability, safety-in-design, and quality assurance frameworks

About Us
SIMEC Mining Iron Ore has operations in South Australia and New South Wales. Our Iron Ore operation in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges South of Whyalla consists of three primary sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges.
