Process Engineer
About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a background in manufacturing or heavy industry to join our Whyalla team. The successful candidate will lead the planning, design, and execution of major mechanical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with Australian and international standards. This role requires strong leadership, hands-on design expertise, and experience with engineering software and systems such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and SAP.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical engineering design, planning, and execution of major projects and capital projects in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Manage contractors and subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, on time, and within budget
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams
- Develop detailed mechanical designs using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other relevant software
- Ensure all mechanical designs and activities comply with Australian standards (AS/NZS) and other relevant codes
- Utilize SAP systems for project tracking, asset management, and procurement processes
- Coordinate and conduct technical reviews, quality assurance, and risk assessments
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of project objectives and deliverables
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including specifications, reports, and drawings
- Stay abreast of industry advancements and implement best practices to drive continuous improvement
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
- Over 10 years’ proven experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in planning and executing major projects
- Extensive experience managing contractors and project teams
- Proficient in mechanical design software including AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Well-versed in Australian standards and other international standards relevant to mechanical engineering
- Experience using SAP for engineering and project management functions
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) with Engineers Australia is highly preferred

About Us
Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide. The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail.
