Liberty Primary Steel, a member of GFG Alliance, operates integrated steelworks which include ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities located in coastal Whyalla, approximately 400km from Adelaide.

About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Power & Services Technician within our Ironmaking business, reporting to the Energy Optimisation Manager. This role will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the interworks distribution systems throughout the steelworks, including the by-product gas systems, natural gas, LPG, fuel oil, distillate, electricity, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, freshwater, saltwater and compressed air systems.

While following and participating in maintaining a high level of safety consciousness and safe work practices within the workplace, the role includes the following key responsibilities; 

•    Manage, inspect and maintain all distribution systems to minimise flaring or bleeding and facilitate safe operation
•    Isolate and purge all distribution systems to facilitate safe maintenance work
•    Manage any safety and environmental incidents to contain risk and identify root cause
•    Ensure supply configuration and maintenance programs are set to deliver the products, utilities and services as per SLAs
•    Ensure optimum level of inventories for consumables via the SAP system and resolve any supply related issues
•    Coordinate repairs with maintenance and contractors.

About your experience

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
•    Trade qualifications or equivalent are advantageous (but not necessary) with experience working in a heavy industry environment,
•    Knowledge and experience in interworks services 
•    Good knowledge of by-product gases systems (operation and maintenance)
•    Strong ability to communicate with a variety of technical stakeholders,
•    Ability to work autonomously towards set project goals
•    Intermediate skills in SAP, Microsoft excel and word.
