About our team

 

Liberty Primary Steel, a member of GFG Alliance, operates integrated steelworks which include ironmaking, steel making and rolling-mill facilities located in coastal Whyalla, approximately 400km from Adelaide.

About the role

 

Based in Whyalla, and reporting into the Manager of Steel Products this role is responsible for the operational delivery of manufactured steel products to the annual business unit capacity plan. This needs to be executed in accordance with agreed customer & supplier service level agreements, matched to process capability and at an optimal cost with continuous improvement.

 

As a key member of the Steel Products Lead Team, the role also contributes towards maximising the economic value and long-term sustainability of the Steel Products manufacturing asset, assisted through:

 

  • Contribution to & ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality control plans and standards
  • Production planning/roll scheduling & coordination with maintenance scheduling
  • Provide an environment that supports operational ownership of plant & equipment reliability
  • Provide the Manager Steel Products an annual operating budget that supports the plant’s capacity plan
  • Coordinate training & development programs for Steel Products personnel
  • Steel Products Primary operations supervision
About your experience

 

Our ideal candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical, Process or Chemical) Metallurgy, Commercial or Business Management. It’s also critical the successful candidate can show demonstrated leadership experience in manufacturing businesses.

 

You will also have;

 

  • Demonstrated experience in roll schedule optimisation
  • Technical understanding of furnaces (blast furnace or reheat furnaces)
  • Experience producing and managing budgets
  • A sound understanding of manufacturing methodologies and improvement processes
  • Demonstrated expereince in Operational Management of a manufacturing asset 
  • An ablilty to translate business unit requirements to 'task level' for employees once removed from this position
