Operations Engineer

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will support day-to-day operations, and optimise operational performances to meet customer needs, through delivery of the production plan whilst demonstrating behaviours to support the organisational values of safety, customer, and profitability.

Working closely with both the Operations and Maintenance teams, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Power Plant and associated services, ensuring the high level of performance required to meet the Steelworks customer requirements. 


As well as working with our major suppliers and customers your other responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Power and Services (P&S) operations to minimise the risks to employees and contractors
  • Manage environmental incidents to contain the risks and to identify/ control the root cause and contributing factors
  • Ensure employees, plant configuration and operation are set to deliver the products, utilities and services to all customers
  • Ensure optimum level of inventories and critical parts/ spares for the consumables are maintained 
  • Drive employee participation in daily morning meetings and in improvement activities and projects 
  • Participate in the planning of major shutdowns and budget preparation and forcecasting

About your experience

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced Operations Engineer, with a strong background in Power Plant Operations and/ or Maintenance. You'll have a good understanding of complex manufacturing processes, strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to communicate effectively with a variety of technical stakeholders.


You’ll also have:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar competency
  • Strong organisational and proactive planning skills
  • Exceptional communication skills and prior experience in partnering with suppliers and customers
  • Solid IT literacy including SAP (advantageous) and the MS Office Suite
  • A desire to professionally develop your skill set.
