Mining WHS Business Partner
About the role
Based in Whyalla supporting our Technical and Port stream, you will join an established team of Work, Health and Safety professionals who partner with the mining business and it’s contracting partners, providing support, coaching and ongoing development to improve the safety performance and move the business closer to achieving Goal Zero.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide effective WHS business partnering support to shift performance and help sites achieve ‘excellence in operations’
- Ensure WHS Strategy, systems & programs are in use and effective in supporting operations to achieve safe production
- Provide SME Advice into Operational & Business Activities reporting on WHS impacts and risks
- Ensure achievement of GFG WHS system requirements & reporting
- Assess and report on operational WHS performance and compliance to Mining Leadership Team
- Consult with operations on WHS systems, changes and improvement opportunities
About your experience
Our ideal candidate will display excellent written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated ability to influence safety outcomes and grow commitment across a diverse workforce.
You will also have;
- Tertiary Work Health and Safety Qualification (Degree qualified in WHS or similar), or senior WHS work experience in Australia
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (desirable)
- Several years WHS BP experience in mining and/or heavy engineering industry
- Technical process knowledge in mining operations or other heavy industry
- Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with leaders to achieve the best business outcomes
About our team
SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Administration functions and ore processing and shipping facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide.
The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with the investment of ~$2.0b over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process. The business is currently investing ~$300m to expand and extend the life of the operations.
