As the Mining Engineer, you will primarily be working for mine site specific activities, looking after the short-term production and mining contract. You will provide technical and practical advice to mine operations to ensure they meet safety and environmental standards, whilst work closely with Contractors, Geologists, Survey, metallurgist and Grade Control to ensure development of mine schedules.

Reporting to the Superintendent Mining, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Liaise with all internal stakeholders to ensure all schedules and designs comply with operational capability whilst complying with strategic objective, and advise as appropriate where mining deviates from schedule 
  • Develop, maintain and document mine planning and scheduling systems
  • Review and assist in minor operational design changes 
  • Collates and analyse mining data for continuous improvement across different mining functions
  • Work with medium term engineer to distribute 3 monthly targets for mining contractors
  • Monitor mining operations and provide support in resolving daily mining operational issues.

 

About your experience

We are looking for a fast-learner individual, who can hit the ground running. Along with your excellent verbal and written communication skills and your ability to work efficiently within a team, you will ideally bring to this role:

  • Previous experience in mine planning and scheduling with solid exposure to mining operations and contract management 
  • Open pit experience would be ideal, however we are open to underground 
  • Knowledge of drill and blaster systems as well as an understanding of geotechnical issues 
  • Experience in Datamine, Surpac, XACT, OPMS, code/scripting development skills are highly regarded.

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south west of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Administration functions and ore pelletising and port facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney. 


The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process where the business is currently investing to expand and extend the life of the operations.
