Manager Mining
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mine Manager to lead the Mining function by optimising extraction, material movement and delivery of product to Processing Plants meeting current and future plans and targets in an effective, efficient and safe way to achieve lowest unit costs.
Based in Whyalla, the Manager Mining will collaborate with all stakeholder departments in formulating and safely & efficiently implementing the mine plan through managing employee and mining contractors across the 3 Iron Ore mining sites and Ardrossan Dolomite Mine.
Responsibilities include:

Implement and enforce a proactive Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) culture and a safe and healthy work environment for the mining function

Oversee and coordinate the SIMEC early intervention program

Ensure your department and contract services’ full compliance with mining legislation/regulations and all SIMEC and site people, safety, technical, operating and business systems

Providing a physical presence and leadership at sites to manage the contractors, making sure they follow the plans (mine plan and ground control plan), managing total spend and unit costs and meeting production outputs and safety requirements

Support the Head of Iron Ore Operations and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to develop aligned strategies, plans and targets across the Whyalla sites including the development and management of the mining department’s 36-month plan and budget.

Drive Asset Optimization and Continuous Improvement programs for mining operations

Be accountable for creating and maintaining an effective Mining team so that the team safely achieves the plan and targets and continues to improve performance sustainably
Our ideal candidate has excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to provide sound advice and negotiate across all levels of management. They are an inclusive & collaborative leader, and able to lead & manage change while successfully navigating in a fast-paced work environment.
You will also possess the flowing:

Degree in Mining Engineering or Equivalent
-
Health, Safety and Environment and relevant legislative requirements

Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency/First Class Mine Manager’s Ticket in line with South Australian Mining legislation
-
10+ years’ experience in mining operations in leadership positions and >$320M per year Budget spend,
-
Sound understanding of truck & shovel operations and drill & blast optimisation as well as a deep understanding of mining & processing overall
-
Demonstrated experience with contract & contractor management, with success in effectively managing costs and performance of outsourced mining operations

Demonstrated leadership and change management capability
