Lubrication Technical Officer

About The Role

We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Lubrication Technical Officer to join our Central Engineering team at Whyalla Steelworks. In this role, you will play a vital part in improving equipment reliability through the delivery of proactive lubrication services, aligned with our Asset Management Manual. You will be responsible for managing lubrication programs, conducting oil sampling and analysis, and providing technical expertise to optimise equipment performance. This position requires a mechanically minded individual with strong communication skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple plant areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver proactive lubrication services to improve plant reliability and reduce early component failures
  • Implement and maintain lubrication programs, including greasing, oil changes, oil sampling, and audits
  • Analyse oil sample results, investigate abnormalities, and support failure investigations where lubrication is a factor
  • Provide technical expertise on lubricant selection, storage, and application
  • Maintain lubrication work plans and records in SAP, ensuring compliance with work management processes
  • Collaborate with maintenance, planning, and reliability teams to integrate lubrication practices into plant strategies
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities by optimising lubrication strategies based on asset condition and utilisation
  • Provide coaching and training to improve lubrication practices and embed a reliability-focused culture
  • Ensure full compliance with WHS, environmental, and work management standards

 

About You

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Qualified in lubrication techniques – LCAT 1 (essential), ICML MLT 1 (desirable)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in lubrication or reliability within heavy industrial manufacturing
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems, lubrication analysis, and reliability improvement tools
  • Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Office applications
  •  Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to influence and support stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Commitment to safety, environmental, and quality standards

About Us

Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen.
