About the Role


We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Inventory & Assembly Technician to join our mobile maintenance team. You will be responsible for managing workshop inventory, supporting component assembly, and assisting with hydraulic hose manufacture and testing. This role requires a mechanically minded individual comfortable working in a physical workshop environment and committed to high safety and quality standards.

 

Key Responsibilities
•    Control and manage all spares, repairables, and workshop inventory
•    Ensure timely, accurate, and cost-effective supply of materials and stock
•    Support material planning, purchase requisitions, and usage tracking via SAP and Excel
•    Assist with mechanical assembly, hydraulic hose fabrication, and calibration testing
•    Maintain workshop cleanliness, equipment checks, and safety compliance
•    Identify inventory optimisation opportunities and implement improvements
•    Operate forklifts and workshop equipment (LF licence or willingness to obtain)
•    Follow safe work practices and report hazards promptly

 

About You
•    Mechanically inclined with a hands-on, proactive approach
•    Proficient or willing to learn SAP and Microsoft Office
•    High attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills
•    Forklift licence (LF) or willingness to obtain
•    Trade background or experience in plant maintenance desirable but not essential
•    Strong understanding of safety culture and OHS requirements
•    Self-motivated, systematic, and team-focused
•    Able to translate business needs into practical workshop solutions
•    Desirable Skills

About Us

Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen.
