Inventory Controller

About The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Inventory Controller to support Whyalla Operations by managing spares and repairable materials across the business. In this role, you will oversee inventory levels, reorder points, and material requirements planning using SAP to ensure optimal stock availability and minimize plant downtime. You will work closely with plant users, stores, and procurement teams to maintain efficient inventory controls and support stocktake activities.


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage inventory holdings for spares and repairable materials in line with MPS policies and SAP data
  • Monitor consumption patterns and adjust replenishment plans to meet production needs
  • Maintain accurate stock levels by reviewing reorder points, lead times, and maximum stock levels
  • Collaborate with sourcing and purchasing teams to maximise value and minimise supply chain costs
  • Assist with stocktakes and ensure data integrity in SAP and related inventory systems
  • Promote safety and compliance by ensuring all materials have proper documentation and handling procedures
  • Provide advice and support to plant teams on inventory management best practices
  • Identify opportunities to reduce excess or obsolete stock and drive continuous improvement

 

About You

 

  • Experience or understanding of machinery and working in industrial environments such as mining or steelmaking is highly desirable
  • Mechanical experience or a trade background is advantageous
  • Experience with SAP or similar inventory management software is preferred but not essential
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to monitor and forecast inventory demand
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Knowledge of inventory optimisation and material planning principles
  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Commitment to workplace safety and compliance standards

About Us

Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail.
