IT Communication Support Officer

About The Role:

You will support the delivery of reliable, safe and high performance communications services across both the mining operations and steel manufacturing facilities.

 
As a key member of the Network Team, you will ensure the availability and integrity of critical operational technologies including radio networks, CCTV, telephony, security systems and associated communications infrastructure.


You will provide second level technical support, manage complex incidents, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational safety, productivity and compliance across the full value chain.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Support:

  • Provide second‑level support for communications systems across mining and steelmaking operations, resolving complex incidents and service requests escalated from the Service Desk.
  • Monitor operational ticket queues and respond to incidents and outages within agreed SLAs to minimise disruption to production, logistics and safety‑critical processes.
  • Escalate issues to third‑level support teams or vendors when required, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution.
  • Safety, compliance and governance
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety outcomes across communications infrastructure and work practices in both mining and steel manufacturing environments.
  • Ensure all communications systems meet required safety, RF, CCTV, telecommunications and data compliance standards, including statutory and regulatory obligations relevant to heavy industry.
  • Support the Network Team Lead in maintaining governance frameworks for all operational communication devices and systems

 

Project and Contractor Coordination:

  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation including drawings, procedures, reports and schedules for both mining and steelmaking assets.
  • Technical capability and continuous improvement
  • Maintain strong knowledge of operational technology environments across mining and steel manufacturing, including emerging communications and industrial networking solutions.
  • Recommend innovative technical improvements that enhance reliability, safety and performance of communications systems.
  • Contribute to lifecycle management of communications assets, including upgrades, replacements and optimisation initiatives.

About You:

  • Demonstrated experience in ICT service delivery within operational, industrial or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of core network protocols, communications technologies and operational technology support requirements.
  • Experience supporting two‑way radio systems (e.g., DAMM Tetraflex, analogue/digital), CCTV platforms (Bosch, Panasonic), telephony (Alcatel‑Lucent) and security systems (Siemens SiPass).
  • Ability to work at heights; High Risk WP licence desirable.
  • Strong documentation, vendor coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.

 

Desirable:

  • Trade certification in Radio, CCTV, Electronics or equivalent, or relevant industry experience.
  • Open Telecommunications Cabler’s registration with structured cabling and fibre endorsements.
  • Experience with networks, LTE, wireless, point to point, point to multipoint technologies. 
  • Experience supervising contractors and managing vendor relationships across multi site industrial operations.
