HV Project Engineer
About the role
Based in Whyalla, this role will be critical in ensuring the safe and efficient design, installation, maintenance, and operation of high-voltage electrical systems used throughout the steelworks and mining operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and planning HV electrical infrastructure
- Overseeing the execution of HV-related projects
- Supervising the installation of high-voltage equipment
- Planning and scheduling the preventive maintenance for HV systems
- Troubleshooting and resolving electrical faults or failures
- Conducting risk assessments and enforcing safety procedures on systems
- Ensuring compliance with Industrial safety regulations
- Conducting testing and commissioning to ensure systems are operational and safe
- Develop detailed capital submissions for engineering projects, including cost estimates, timelines, and justifications
You have proven experience in a similar role within a mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry sector. You have a strong sense of work ethic, are a natural go getter and are used to working in a dynamic environment prioritizing competing demands.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in project management, project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
- Working experience in HV switching is highly regarded

About us
Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide. The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen as part of the GFG’s journey to be carbon neutral by 2030.
