Electrical and Infrastructure Maintenance Lead

About the role

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Lead for our SMR Fixed Plant, reporting to the Superintendent Maintenance SMR Fixed Plant. The role will focus on effective leadership and practical maintenance management, supporting the superintendent in safely sustaining the condition and productive capacity of the fixed plant assets at the SMR site.  Specifically, this relates to the electrical & instrumentation elements of the SMR Fixed Plants – Fixed Crusher and Concentrator, the Global Water system – as well as all non-process infrastructure.


Key aspects of the role include: 

  • Leading a team of electrical trades people in the safe, effective and efficient execution of maintenance strategy and repair work
  • Effective use of SAP to co-ordinate all maintenance activities relating to the Fixed Plant, as well as the scoping and prioritisation of these activities
  • Directing the execution of any planned and/or unplanned maintenance work at the Fixed Plant
  • Significant input to the scoping, planning and execution of plant shutdowns – covering maintenance and improvement work
  • Ensuring a high level of communication with the overall Fixed Plant Team to ensure smooth interaction of daily activities and efficient allocation of resources
  • Technical input to key electrical and control systems across Fixed Plant area, including fault finding and repairs

Our ideal candidate will possess;

  • Strong safety and customer focus with good communication skills;
  • An electrical trade or engineering qualification
  • Practical leadership capability with experience in minerals processing;
  • Experience using computer maintenance management system (preferably SAP);
  • Passion to challenge the status quo, identify opportunities for improvement and focus on results


About our team

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Iron Ore mining operations in South Australia’s Middleback Ranges, south west of Whyalla, consist of three primary mine sites: Iron Baron, Iron Knob and the South Middleback Ranges. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Administration functions and ore pelletising and port facilities are located within the city limits of Whyalla, with corporate functions based in Adelaide and Sydney. 

The Iron Ore business is on an exciting trajectory to expand our mining and processing operations with significant investment over the next three years. Our operations in Tahmoor NSW produce metallurgical coal for the steel making process where the business is currently investing to expand and extend the life of the operations.
