Electrical Technician
About The Role:
The Electrical Technician will play a critical role in enhancing the operational success of the Whyalla Steelworks through planning and technical support within the Electrical Services department. This position will focus on electrical asset management services for our Power and Services operations, including the HV Network control system, as well as the Mechanical Services workshop, contributing to improved equipment availability and production performance.
The role will also provide technical support to site teams to prevent and recover from equipment and control system faults.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver technical support to tradespeople and contractors performing corrective and preventative maintenance
- Act as Tier 2 technical escalation point for Electrical and Control system breakdowns
- Support plant engineers with technical expertise for modifications and assist with commissioning of engineering projects
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Services Superintendent to design and deliver an asset and maintenance strategy aligned with the Whyalla steelworks quality and capacity plan
- Contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) for events which significantly impact electrical asset reliability and maintainability at the operation and implement permanent corrective actions that decrease the probability of reoccurrence
- Monitor safety behaviour on site and promote safe practices that minimize risk to teams, contractors, and the environment.
- Plan and prepare documentation for Electrical and Control System asset maintenance plans
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, contractors and Electrical Services team to agree on requirements and proactively resolve performance, scope, schedule, and resource issues.
About You:
- Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum qualification)
- Unrestricted Electrical Licence (preferred but not essential)
- Demonstrated project management experience, with Project Controller training highly regarded
- Heavy industrial experience (preferred but not essential)
- Experience with Honeywell DCS
- Working knowledge of Rockwell and Siemens drives
- Experience using Citect SCADA
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with CMMS and ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Dynamics 365, Maximo, EPIX)
