Electrical Engineer - Power and Services

About the role

Reporting into the Power and Services Maintenance Superintendent, the primary objective for this role is to improve the reliability and safety of the manufacturing equipment through development of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, maximising the economic value and long-term sustainability of the LPS Whyalla Electrical, Instrumentation and Control asset.


You will provide focused support for engineering and sustainable business improvement in the following ways:

  • Provide engineering/technical oversight to the wider team
  • Develop and review of Equipment Maintenance Program for electrical equipment
  • Perform project or task management functions, including coordination of technical meetings, generating scope of work, general electrical engineering contract supervision and coordination
  • Review and approve Electrical engineering activities planned by the contractors to ensure compliance with the Scope of Work and quality objectives of the projects undertaken
  • Manage the planning, safe execution, and commissioning of approved projects to agreed scope, budget, schedule, quality and relevant standards and specifications
  • Provide electrical engineering support to improve reliability of plant and equipment, maintain asset integrity and resolve operational issues and problems
  • Ensure the Company’s requirements for technical uniformity, technical assurance, and standardisation are appropriately incorporated into the engineering tasks undertaken
  • Knowledge of preparing/reviewing drawings, calculations, and reports to make recommendations for engineering improvements & problem solving
  • Mentor team members to help improve their existing capability

About your experience

You are an experienced Electrical Engineer who is safety focused, collaborative and proactive in their approach. 

Alongside your ability to undertake electrical, instrumentation and control software/hardware design, or to manage design undertaken by others, you will possess the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Post-graduate qualifications in Project / Maintenance / Engineering Management / Reliability are desirable
  • Experience with high, medium, and low voltage applications (particularly 6.6kV and lower) in an industrial environment is critical
  • Demonstrated ability leading small brownfields projects within a largescale manufacturing or mining environment 
  • Working knowledge of Engineering Standards and practical application in an industrial work environment
  • Sound understanding of project management and improvement processes and tools
  • Good communication and reporting skills and techniques
