Blast Furnace Shift Relief Leader

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, as a Relief Shift Leader of the Blast Furnace you will support the operating shift in the absence of the Shift Leader. While leading the plant, you will plan, coordinate, control and supervise the shift activities within the Blast Furnace and utilise your proactive nature to spot possible issues and minimise delays to keep the process running efficiently.


Key responsibilities:

  • Production planning, scheduling, and coordination with the maintenance scheduling team
  • Contribute to and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, quality control plans and standards
  • Plan rosters, team over time, and manage sick leave and performance management
  • Coordinate training and development of Blast Furnace personnel
  • Provide an environment that supports operational ownership of plant and equipment reliability
  • Work within the constraints of the Blast Furnace operating budget
  • Supervise operational facilities in a manner that minimises risk to employees, contractors, and the environment
  • Manage inventory within Blast Furnace control, to minimize stock levels, expenditure and within budget

About your experience

With solid heavy industry experience and demonstrated experience in operational management of a manufacturing asset, our ideal candidate will have strong people and influencing skills with excellent attention to detail. An understanding of chemical elements, analysis of data and ability to process numerical information is critical in this role. 


In addition you will have:

  • Strong IT proficiency including MS Office, particularly Excel
  • Relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated leadership in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • The ability to translate Blast Furnace requirements to ‘task level’ for employees
  • This role works across a rotational shift pattern, with a competitive shift allowance on offer.
