Blast Furnace Maintenance Manager

About the role

Based on site in Whyalla, the primary objective of this operational leadership role is to lead the Blast Furnace Maintenance Team in achieving measurable best practice operations across safety, production, cost effectiveness, sustainability, and people management in a rolling 6–12-month timeframe.

Accountable for team culture and as a Manager of direct reports, your key responsibilities will include:

  • The performance of every direct report in keeping with the pursuit of excellence
  • Creating and maintaining an effective team in order achieve the plan and targets
  • Coach Leaders in how to make decisions within their authority including when you are off-site
  • Being an active participant in the Blast Furnace leadership team
  • Accountability to ensure the physical, emotional, and physiological safety of the Blast Furnace employees
  • Creating and maintaining a proactive HS&E culture and sustainable environment
  • Conduct regular safety interactions, Planned Task Observations, and audits with all supervisors/ team leaders
  • Accountable to design, implement and improve existing maintenance systems
  • Ensure the team is working closely with the Maintenance Team to deliver both the weekly plans and planned shutdown
  • Prepare, manage, and review operating budgets for Blast Furnace Production processes as well as monitor against monthly cost drivers
  • Maintain customer relationships and both internal and external service agreements

Driven by accountability for the performance of others, you will bring to this role:

  • Previous experience within maintenance/ metalliferous processing/ manufacturing in a maintenance or engineering leadership role
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Trade qualifications or equivalent
  • Leading and driving a high functioning team with a strong continuous improvement focus
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic and scenario planning, commercial analysis and budget preparation and management
  • Strong sense of confidentiality, integrity and driving company core values and best practice
  • Solutions focused when faced with operational challenges
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring and succession planning teams
  • Strong proficiency with IT including SAP and other quality management tools
  • Willingness to relocate to Whyalla (relocation package available for interstate candidates)
