Automation Services Leader

About the role

Reporting to the Electrical Operations Integrity Manager, this role contributes towards maximising the economic value and long-term sustainability of the automation systems assets at Liberty Primary Steel (LPS). This role is primarily responsible for delivering plant and equipment automation strategies as well as providing automation standards to support automation systems improvements.


As an individual driven to champion projects to make the plant safer and more reliable, your key functions will involve:

  • Providing input to an annual capital budget for the automation systems
  • Providing plant and equipment automation strategies: specifically, automation security, SCADA/HMI, PLC, variable speed drives, soft starters, and OT network infrastructure
  • Providing automation standards to support existing and proposed automation systems improvements: specifically, OEM equipment automation, PLC software, SCADA and HMI software, data concentrator, PLC, variable speed drives & soft starter, MES systems and OT network infrastructure
  • Development and deployment of outdated management road map to ensure long term availability of equipment, spares, and capability for all automation assets
  • In consultation with business units, develop, deploy, and manage the automation risk portfolio including identification of key business risks and implementation of mitigation and preventative controls, control design reviews and effectiveness tests
  • Improving the capability of the electrical teams, through the development of an automation systems training strategy to ensure success of both shift and technical support personnel
  • Collaboration with the Electrical Services Manager in the development and application of the preferred automation equipment standards
  • Collaborate to ensure the automation asset management strategy is aligned with the overall manufacturing plan
  • Facilitate the coordination of engineering and maintenance resources to ensure standardisation of automation equipment and processes, and the optimal balance of skills and resources for LPS
  • Collaboration with Transformation team to ensure alignment of automation standards and readiness to operate.

About your experience

As a highly technically skilled individual with demonstrated practical expertise, you will be a subject matter expert on automation and control systems.


With your finesse to manage OT network infrastructure alongside other industrial automation systems, you will also possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Applied Electrical / Electrical Engineering (preferred), or a trade background in automation and control systems
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment, production, and application of Engineering standards
  • Successfully delivering a plan that is executed to migrate across without interruption to process
  • Solid comprehension of manufacturing methodologies and improvement processes
  • People management skills within a manufacturing environment
  • High level of computer literacy (including Rockwell, SAP, and Microsoft Office ideally)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
