Senior Emergency Services Officer
About the role
Reporting to the Emergency Services Management Lead, the Senior Emergency Services Officer (ESO) contributes to the success of Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) through the delivery of a fit for purpose Emergency Response (Fire, Rescue, Medical Response and Asset Protection) capability in line with the operational requirements and risk environment at the Whyalla Steelworks, and SIMEC Mining sites.
The Senior ESO is responsible for assisting with the Emergency Management Lead in the leadership, management and rostering of the Emergency Response Team to ensure compliance with site policies and procedures. This includes supporting the development and delivery of regular emergency response exercises, training of Trainee Emergency Services Officers (TESO), and the development of an Auxilary Response Group (ARG).
Roster: 14 days on, 14 days off, 12 hour day shift.
Location: Whyalla. Flexibility for FIFO from Adelaide
Key Responsibilities:
- Immediate response and attendance to all onsite incidents as the Office in Charge (OIC) and assume command and control of the incident
- Serving as a liaison/contact between the Emergency Management Lead and Site Response Team
- Coordinating rescue efforts and strategies for the teams responding to the incident
- Review of team performance and providing feedback relating to safety breaches/positive observations
- Presenting and facilitation of training to the Emergency Response Team
- Undertake training, compliance and reporting activity for a range or emergency response functions
- Maintain thorough knowledge of sites, including streets, buildings, water supply, unusual hazards and related items
- Ensure emergency response equipment, vehicles and PPE are maintained in at a high level of operational readiness
- Participate in investigations and post incident debriefs
- Identify and recommend best practice incentives to improve security and emergency preparedness as well as response capabilities.
About your experience

Essential qualifications/skills
- Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue
- Certificate IV Workplace Trainer and Assessor
- Medium/Heavy Rigid Driver’s Licence or equivalent
- Certificate III in PUA Firefighting
- Certificate II Security Operations
- HLTPA005 – Collect Specimens for drugs of abuse testing or similar
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Competent with MS Office Suite
- Decisiveness and strong decision-making capabilities, coupled with strong conceptual thinking and problem solving.
It will also be beneficial if you have any of the following:
- Certificate IV in Emergency Response Coordination
- Certificate IV in Ambulance
- Certificate IV in Surface Extraction Operations
- Workplace Supervisor Skill Set or equivalent for training and assessing in the workplace
- Comprehensive knowledge of Health, Safety & Risk legislation and best practice standards with Essential) with an understanding of relevant legislation and regulations
- Low voltage rescue certified.
