About our team

SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance has operations in Whyalla, South Australia and Tahmoor, New South Wales. Our commodity portfolio consists of mining and mineral processing plants from pit to port. Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets.

About the role

Based in Tahmoor and reporting into the maintenance superintendent you will coordinate and implement engineering plans for the shift in conjunction with the shift Undermanager, manage all on shift engineering delays by providing guidance and mentorship to trades.
In your new role, you will also be responsible for;


  • Providing engineering assistance/advice to the shift Undermanager and manage shift resourcing to meet the agreed plan
  • Supervise the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of plant and installations at the mine
  • Provide reports to the Maintenance Superintendent and Area leads on performance and deficiencies including action plans, major delays, and works conducted
  • Effectively utilise the Maintenance Management System to develop and close out work orders, and to monitor planned completion schedules
  • Coordinate parts, labour and equipment as required to undertake the maintenance plans and major breakdowns
  • Manage projects and contractors within the section, monitoring compliance with contractual obligations to check projects are delivered within the agreed scope and quality standards


About your experience

We are looking for shift engineers with extensive knowledge of the NSW coal mining statutory and legislative requirements with 5 years’ experience working in a similar role in an underground coal mine.
You will also have;


  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering (Cert III, Diploma or Degree)
  • Strong experience and knowledge of the maintenance processes and key equipment.
  • Proficiency in PLC and SCADA system operations
  • Experience on Variable Frequency Drives and networking systems.
  • An understanding of High Voltage and High-Tension principles.
