Financial Accountant

Reporting to the site Commercial Manager, we are currently looking to appoint an experienced Financial Accountant who is responsible for delivering both Financial and Management Accounting outcomes for Tahmoor Coal.  This role will see you get great exposure across the business by working closely with the Tahmoor Commercial Team and the SIMEC Mining commercial function in Adelaide. It is a great opportunity to be a part of an evolving team in an exciting environment. 

This is a part time role where you will be required to work 3 days a week on average. During times of high workload, 4 days a week may be required to support the Commercial Manager. There is an ability to perform some work from home.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure timely and accurate completion for month-end accounting processes
  • Drive and implement strong financial processes and reporting
  • Deploy financial systems and processes to meet business KPIs
  • Assist the Commercial Team with commercial reporting, processes and accounting matters
  • Reconciliations, financial reports, and other tasks as required.


About your experience

You will be someone who has strong analytical and complex problem-solving skills who enjoys working in a fast paced, flexible environment whilst adhering to strict deadlines.  You are also resourceful and have strong communications skills to be able to work effectively in a cross functional team at all levels of the organisation as well as autonomously.


Skills and qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance or Accounting
  • Accounting profession accreditation is an advantage but not essential
  • Post qualification experience within a large corporate, mining, manufacturing or professional accounting services firm
  • Experience in finance business partnering, month end, forecasting, budgeting and reconciliations
  • Experience using SAP
  • Highly advanced Excel modelling skills
  • Strong financial and business acumen

SIMEC Mining, a member of GFG Alliance, has operations in SA and NSW. Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine (with a minimum 10 year life) and an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Located in the scenic Southern Highlands region, only a 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast and 75km south west of Sydney.
