Legal Counsel - Property

About the role

We have a unique opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal Team and be based in our Sydney Head Office. This full-time, permanent role is ideal for candidates with experience in property (particularly leasing) who are keen to work in a dynamic, long-standing business. You will support the Head of Legal InfraBuild Australia and Head of Property, working closely with the legal and property teams across the business. This role offers a chance to gain valuable corporate and commercial in-house experience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and negotiate property leases
  • Stay updated on property law legislation and regulations
  • Advise internal and external stakeholders on property-related matters
  • Manage external lawyers for property transactions and leasing
  • Advise on property transactions (sale and purchase)
  • Engage with Treasury, Tax, Insurance, Finance and other cross functional teams on property matters
  • Advise on FIRB (Foreign Investment Review Board) requirements for property leasing and transactions
  • Assist with the preparation of Board and senior executive presentation materials on property matters
  • Provide general commercial and corporate in-house legal support
  • Ensure compliance with property law and manage related risks
  • Conduct title searches, review easements, and perform due diligence and legal research on property issues
  • Assist with property-related insurance claims and disputes
  • Instruct and manage external legal engagement where necessary.

 

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 4 to 5 years of post-qualification experience, particularly in property leasing
  • Admission to practice law in Australia
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate complex property transactions
  • Ability to work in an agile and dynamic environment and manage competing priorities
  • Enthusiasm and a keen interest in achieving commercial objectives
  • Excellent collaboration skills with other functional teams and stakeholders
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • Good commercial acumen and ability to guide the business to make informed decisions on risk which are aligned to commercial objectives and the risk appetite of the business.
