Category and Network Strategy Manager - Sydney

About the role

Reporting to the Executive General Manager (EGM) Freight and Logistics, the Category and Network Strategy Manager will provide category leadership and network strategy support to the Freight and Logistics (F&L) function across the GFG group of businesses covering shipping, rail, road and steel terminals.

This role is critical in ensuring that major F&L contract and logistics network strategy activities deliver service performance and best commercially sustainable outcomes as well as supporting the EGM Freight and Logistics to develop logistics and supply chain strategies and provide leadership in subsequent negotiations with all major carriers/providers.

The role will support the F&L group’s expanding role across the value chain and into the upstream and downstream businesses by identifying and delivering commercial opportunities in the supply chain and through each of the major sales channels.

 

The role will be the F&L link to the strategic sourcing group, ensuring that the F&L sourcing activities are in line with the broader GFG Alliance protocols.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Establish a network of influence amongst key stakeholders – integration team members, business unit GM’s, State Managers and suppliers

  • Build an effective framework for senior management engagement with key providers

  • Work with the EGM to ensure operational, tactical and strategic review forums, drive our F&L strategic goals, cost imperatives and continuous improvement

  • Develop and maintain the sourcing methodology to be applied in F&L using existing GFG Alliance sourcing frameworks

  • Effectively engage with senior internal stakeholders to transition more F&L spend onto contracted carriers

  • Develop network strategies with internal stakeholders for road, rail, sea and terminals activities

  • Ensure outcomes implemented are sustainable, provide the required level of service to our customers and business units, and set up the businesses for future success aligning to business objectives

  • Support the F&L teams development of the improved reporting and analysis tools, including value-add challenge to status quo and delivery of cost savings

 

 

Skills and experience:

 

  • Strong strategic sourcing experience, preferably specialising in Freight and Logistics

  • Demonstrated commercial negotiation success for large and complex contracts as well as smaller road freight contracts

  • Strong supply chain commercial acumen

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels

  • Specialised tender management and negotiation skills

  • Strong analytical, conceptual, organisation and prioritisation skills

  • A continuous improvement mindset
