Senior Mechanical Engineer

About The Role

Join the team at Laverton with InfraBuild Manufacturing as a Senior Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and improving plant performance over the long term.

You will lead engineering design and reliability initiatives across mechanical, civil, structural and services systems. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring equipment is safe, fit-for-purpose, and operating at optimal performance.

A major focus of the role is identifying and eliminating high-impact, recurring failures. Rather than applying short-term fixes, you’ll use your technical expertise to implement sustainable solutions that improve reliability and reduce downtime.

Working closely with the Maintenance Superintendent and broader teams, you’ll drive improvement initiatives, optimise equipment through modification, and strengthen maintenance strategies across the plant.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigating equipment reliability issues and implementing long-term corrective actions
  • Acting as the engineering authority on equipment safety and design integrity
  • Developing and improving preventative and condition-based maintenance strategies
  • Identifying and delivering plant improvement and optimisation initiatives
  • Scoping and delivering CAPEX projects, from concept to commissioning
  • Leading condition monitoring programs to improve asset reliability
  • Supporting plant shutdowns with engineering input and oversight
  • Coordinating inspections and translating findings into practical solutions
  • Maintaining engineering and maintenance documentation
  • Mentoring engineers and supporting team capability development
  • Collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to prioritise work

You are a technically strong and practical engineer who can diagnose issues, influence others, and deliver lasting solutions. You’re comfortable working both strategically and hands-on, with a strong focus on safety and continuous improvement.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
  • Ideally 10+ years’ experience in maintenance/reliability within heavy industry
  • Strong expertise in mechanical systems and equipment performance
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and eliminate recurring failures
  • Experience with maintenance systems (e.g. SAP) and data analysis
  • Project and budget management experience
  • Understanding of condition monitoring techniques
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineers or technical teams
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across all levels
  • A solid commitment to safety and knowledge of relevant requirements

This role suits someone looking to step into a strategic technical specialist position, where you can make a real impact on plant reliability and performance.
