Systems Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a Systems Engineer who can maintain and enhance our existing production-based computer systems and automation systems. You will also be responsible for engaging in research and development of emerging measurements, control, communications, databases and related technologies for integration within business production systems. You will be working between the electrical team and the IT department, based out of Newcastle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain the systems related to the machines running, and design the systems if anything needs to be upgraded
- Look after our existing production-based computer systems and make sure everything is running smoothly, fix issues when they happen, and improve systems over time
- Provide support with an on-call troubleshooting/ break down service ensuring uninterrupted production processes
- Identify future opportunities to enhance existing systems including extended functionality
- Work with internal customers to define their systems requirements
- Able to select suitable hardware and software using a timely and cost effective approach whilst ensuring operational security
- Develop and maintain technical specifications and user documentation
You bring in strong technical expertise, prioritise work, deal with challenges and work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Relevant Engineering degree or similar
- Software development skills (C, C++, SQL, Visual Basic, Linux, Windows and Databases)
- Systems hardware knowledge (servers, networking, communications protocol)
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with integrated manufacturing systems (ERP, MES, shop floor systems & control systems) and SCADA systems is desirable
- Relevant experience in heavy industry or at a technology solutions provider will be highly regarded
