Mechanical Engineer

About The Role

InfraBuild Steel is seeking a skilled and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Newcastle Rod Mill. In this vital role, you’ll be the technical expert and reliability lead for a designated area of the mill, driving safe, cost-effective, and efficient maintenance practices that directly impact plant performance and business outcomes.


You’ll be accountable for equipment reliability and asset performance, using data-driven insights to identify improvement opportunities, tackle root causes, and implement best-practice solutions.

 

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading safety practices and promoting a ‘Goal Zero’ culture across maintenance teams and contractors
  • Developing and implementing preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and availability to meet production requirements
  • Identifying and delivering continuous improvement projects and capital projects to ensure long term sustainability
  • Managing budgets, maintenance costs, and spare parts inventories to optimise total cost of ownership
  • Coordinating and executing planned shutdowns and repairs
  • Providing coaching and technical guidance to the broader maintenance team

You will also have:

  • Strong background in mechanical engineering, preferably within heavy industry or manufacturing
  • Proven ability to improve plant reliability through structured maintenance strategies
  • Experience leading safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with WHS and environmental standards
  • Strong understanding of RCA methods and Asset Strategies
  • Excellent communication and leadership capabilities
  • Proficiency in SAP or similar CMMS for planning and tracking maintenance activities
  • Exceptional project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-drive and the ability to work autonomously as well as in a Team environment
  • Strong drive towards positive results
