We would like to invite recent or soon-to-be graduates to take part in our 2027 Graduate Program as a Graduate Systems Engineer based at the Newcastle Wire Mill.  
 
Real Work with Real Outcomes – Starting in January 2027, our program offers a two-year fixed-term contract with the potential for permanent placement. This immersive, hands-on program provides practical learning through hands-on experience and meaningful work.  
  • Participants will complete two 12-month rotational placements, gaining a comprehensive technical and commercial skills training blend. 
  • The program includes continuous coaching, mentorship, and formal training, allowing participants to rotate through diverse business units. 
  • This structure ensures a thorough understanding of operations and strategic initiatives, combining on-the-job learning with formal education. 
 
As a Graduate Systems Engineer, you will participate in a structured development program offering comprehensive exposure to core engineering functions within our plant. You will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to real projects that drive plant reliability, safety, and performance. 

Key Areas of Exposure

  • Maintain and troubleshoot industrial control systems supporting wire drawing, heat treatment, and finishing equipment 
  • Support and improve plant data acquisition and monitoring systems 
  • Diagnose and maintain machine vision systems used for quality control and defect detection 
  • Modernise legacy control and data systems, including migration to newer platforms 
  • Develop and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs 
  • Integrate production equipment with plant databases and reporting systems 
  • Improve system reliability through monitoring, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance 
  • Work with production teams to identify automation improvements and process optimisation opportunities

Eligibility Criteria: 
  • A genuine passion for Industrial Automation or Operational Technology systems within steel manufacturing and distribution. 
  • Australian/NZ citizenship or a visa granting unlimited working rights. 
  • An Australian tertiary degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering or similar. Completed within the past three years or set to conclude in 2026.  
  • Less than two years of full-time, discipline-specific work experience.
