Energy and Grid Development Manager

About the role

Reporting to Managing Director at SIMEC Energy Australia (SEA) and working closely with the key stakeholders and asset owners, the Energy and Grid Development Manager will provide technical and regulatory electricity grid and transmission expertise, as well as industry knowledge and origination and development experience, to a range of energy projects including transmission connection projects, renewable energy (including solar, wind and hydrogen), Battery Energy Storage Systems and energy efficiency measures.

The key driver for developing energy projects is to help SEA’s GFG customers manage their energy costs, with increasing demand, price volatility and the need to decarbonise in line with GFG’s global objective to be carbon neutral by 2030.


*This role will see the successful incumbent working on average 3 days from the Melbourne head office and 2 days WFH, with some project dependent travel across GFG sites in Australia to be expected.
 

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to;
 

  • Leading the end-to-end grid connection processes for GFG site modifications, upgrades, expansions and new equipment or technology developments

  • Leading the technical, commercial and legal aspects of network connection projects, from early-stage development to registration, commissioning and energisation

  • Collaborating with the project delivery teams (internal and external) to continually improve project design to give better performance outcomes

  • Identifying and developing project opportunities to support GFG’s need for energy cost management, greenification and growth

  • Ensuring innovative solutions are adopted and implemented by the business, supporting energy growth, energy efficiency, reduced costs and greenification.

  • Preparing reports and presentations to inform Management and Board on the status and progress of projects

  • Maintaining SEA and GFG’s market presence and professional reputation, while liaising with industry experts and sharing technical knowledge and subject matter expertise within the SEA and global energy teams.

 

 

To be successful in this role you will have:
 

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering discipline

  • 10-15 years of energy projects experience in either transmission, renewable energy, mining or industrial applications, energy efficiency, or engineering consulting with a focus on grid, transmission and substation projects.

  • Deep knowledge of grid regulatory process for connecting new projects (generation and load)

  • Experience with energy efficiency/wind and solar generation/battery projects

  • Experience in the management of projects and specialist consultants

  • Experience understanding complex problems and able to design innovative solutions

  • Ability to multi-task with strong commercial acumen.

  • Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to co-ordinate, engage and influence relevant internal and external stakeholders.
