About our team

Liberty Steel, a member of GFG Alliance, operates world-class state-of-the-art Steelmaking facilities in Sydney, Newcastle & Melbourne. We use local materials to produce high quality steel products, while building on our proud traditions of technical excellence and team safety.  The REMS Roll Shop and Workshop provide machining and fitting services to the Newcastle and Sydney Steel Mills.

About the Role

Working as an experienced machinist in the REMS Roll Shop and Workshop team you will execute CNC Machining including programming and operating a range of machinery, identify opportunities for improvement and provide feedback via the maintenance management system. You will be required to complete all tasks safely and to a high quality.  You will be responsible for ensuring task are completed in a timely manner to the required quality and specifications. This will include the execution of preventative and predictive maintenance on machinery as well as attending to breakdowns if the need arises. The role is a weekly rotating day/afternoon shift based in Newcastle.


About your experience
To be successful in this role, you will meet the below criteria:
•    Hold relevant mechanical trade qualification
•    Ability to read and understand G-Code
•    Have a proactive approach, whilst holding safety and customer as core values
•    Confident communicator who can work unsupervised
•    Self-starter who is focussed on outcomes and keen to contribute to the business as a whole
•    Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Experience with Fanuc, Siemens or Fagor Controls is highly desirable. Those with experience working autonomously with CNC machines will be viewed favourably.
