State Manager - VIC
About the role
Reporting to the National Operations and Trading Manager, the VIC State Manager will be accountable for delivering the strategic imperatives of creating an investment return through the profitable trading of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals. The role is P&L accountable with trading, supply chain and safe operations under the role’s direct control.
The role will manage and improve the integrated outcomes by capturing profitable intake via an appropriate collection footprint and trading workforce, ensuring the business has the necessary processing capability that provides positive customer experience and through technology, capable people and capital investment, creating a safe and cost-effective operation which allows the business to deliver superior returns on funds employed. The role is similarly focused on creating high growth activities in the regions and contributes to the broader Recycling group by working with the Australian lead team to drive optimum performance and improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and drive the 3-year business plan to deliver the business imperatives
- Lead negotiations for major supply contracts and approve all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal supply contracts for small and medium sized suppliers with the company’s DOA
- Facilitate the development and implementation of strategies for defending and growing current business
- Set and maintain standards of personal behaviour to reinforce effective working relationships throughout the organisation and drive discretionary effort through good people practices
- Ensure the effective application of business systems to continuously improve performance, including safety, customer satisfaction, quality, people, operational performance, profitability, APP and margin
- Manage the performance of direct reports through coaching, team building and conducting effective performance reviews; lead and monitor formal communications with teams
- Ensure safety is a key priority and driven through the business including plans, systems and behaviours
- Review the operating effectiveness and efficiency of the state’s assets and initiate improvement activities
We are seeking a safety focused leader with strong influencing & communication skills and a passion for delivering on time, within budget and to a high standard.
The foundations required to be successful in this role include:
- Degree qualified in a Business, Engineering or Operations related discipline preferred
- Extensive knowledge and leadership experience in Sales/Trading and Manufacturing
- A proven leader that has led teams tasked with different functional accountabilities
- Ability to calculate percentages, ratios and margins and analyse reports to identify trends and discrepancies
- Able to analyse market activity, identify and respond to medium term opportunities and threats
- Exceptional relationship management and the capability to influence and develop effective relationships with suppliers, industry bodies, regulators and staff
- An understanding of international markets and economic drivers
