Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Safety Superintendent plays a critical role in providing operational health and safety leadership, support and assurance across Laverton Steel Mill. Partnering closely with operational leaders, employees, contractors and Health and Safety Representatives, you will drive a proactive safety culture through effective risk management, critical control verification, incident prevention and compliance assurance.
Supporting both the Rolling Mills and Site Services functions, you will work across a diverse range of high-risk manufacturing and maintenance environments. Your focus will be on ensuring critical risks are actively managed, WHS systems are effectively implemented, and practical safety improvements are delivered where they matter most.
What you will be doing:
- Prevent work-related ill health and injuries by effectively managing physical, chemical, and psychosocial risks, while actively promoting wellbeing across all our workplaces
- Lead critical risk management activities, ensuring effective controls are implemented, verified and continuously improved across high-risk operations
- Provide visible safety leadership and coaching to leaders and frontline teams, strengthening safety culture, accountability and risk awareness
- Lead and support incident reporting, investigations and learning activities, ensuring meaningful corrective actions are identified and implemented
- Drive effective use of health and safety systems, providing training, guidance, reporting and performance insights to operational teams
- Support compliance with WHS legislation, company standards and assurance requirements through audits, inspections and continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner with operational leaders to manage the safety performance of a large workforce, ensuring high risk work is planned, supervised and executed safely

What you will bring:
- Certificate IV or higher in Work Health and Safety
- Strong understand of Victorian OHS legislative requirements
- ICAM or advanced investigation training
- Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, steel, construction, logistics or other high risk operational environments
- Practical understanding of critical risk management and control verification
- Experience supporting incident investigations and corrective action management
- Demonstrated ability to influence operational leaders, frontline teams and contractors
