Reporting to the State Operations Manager the Hemmant Operations Manager has primary responsibility for overseeing business objectives and strategies of the production operations across the Hemmant site to optimise production efficiency and improve safety performance through the maintenance of standards, process control and problem solving.
This is a critical operational control role, accountable for stabilising performance, enforcing standards, and driving safety, communication, and accountability across Ferrous and Non-Ferrous operations in the yard. The role bridges strategy and execution to deliver consistent, safe, and sustainable operations. The position provides a platform to strengthen operational discipline, maintenance alignment, production coordination and safety leadership across the recycling operation.
What you will be doing:
- Manage operational safety and provide visible safety leadership, including adherence to the safety training plan
- Lead the investigation of all significant safety incidents and ensure corrective actions addressing root causes are in place and completed
- Coordinating daily production activities and achieving daily production plans safely
- Escalating down time immediately
- Maintaining communication between maintenance, operations and leadership
- Foster a work environment and culture which values the contribution of its people and their wellbeing
- Coach and mentor Branch Supervisors in the optimization of output through effective labour utilisation and workforce management

What you will bring:
- A qualification in business and/or operations management or at least 5 years experience in a frontline leadership role within a similar industry
- Previous experience with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) or with S&OP implementation
- Extensive safety training and experience working within a structured safety management system
- Understanding of legislative, WHS, Quality, Environmental, ACCC, RMS and GST regulations
- Demonstrated ability to influence peers, managers and direct reports
- Business acumen and demonstrated management of P&L
