Despatch Officer

About The Role

Due to internal promotion, ARC (The Australian Reinforcing Company) is seeking an experienced and motivated Despatch Officer to join our dynamic team at Hemmant. This role sits at the heart of our operations, connecting production, transport, and customer service to ensure our customers receive their orders safely, on time and in full.

Working closely with internal teams and external freight contractors, you’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the delivery of up to 100+ tonnes of steel products daily. You’ll also support customer service functions, ensuring every interaction reflects our commitment to safety, reliability and customer satisfaction.

With strong team retention, deep industry expertise, and a collaborative work culture, you’ll be well-supported from day one. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established organisation offering professional development, career growth and a supportive work environment.

This role works Monday to Friday on a rotating shift basis, working 5:00am–1:00pm or 8:30am–4:00pm

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and manage the daily despatch schedule, coordinating with drivers, customers and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with Production, Operations, Schedulers, and Sales to ensure seamless despatch and delivery performance.
  • Confirm loads and compile despatch plans the day prior to delivery to maximise DIFOT outcomes.
  • Execute despatch plans efficiently on the day of delivery, responding swiftly to changes and customer needs.
  • Ensure loading dockets are distributed accurately and on time for operational staff.
  • Maintain strong communication with customers and freight partners to coordinate pickups and special delivery requirements.
  • Support Customer Service by handling enquiries, orders, and quotes where required.
  • Monitor delivery performance, freight costs and recovery to achieve key operational targets.

You’re a proactive, customer-focused individual who thrives in a fast-paced logistics or manufacturing environment. You understand that effective despatch is about precision, teamwork, and communication — ensuring the right product reaches the right customer, safely and on time.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Prior experience in a transport, logistics, or manufacturing environment (reinforcing industry experience highly regarded)
  • Strong understanding of load planning, restraints, and safety compliance
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office (Excel) and ideally a familiarity with ERP systems such as Symix, Oracle or SAP
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritise, and adapt to changing demands in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a professional approach to managing multiple stakeholders
  • A safety-first mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
  • A collaborative, customer-centric attitude with a passion for achieving great outcomes
