Mechanical Fitter
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our dynamic team in Brisbane, supporting our operations in steel manufacturing, processing and distribution. With the 2032 Brisbane Olympics driving unprecedented demand for infrastructure and construction, this is an opportunity to join a business that is expanding, investing, and leading from the front – right here in Queensland.
In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimisation of mechanical systems critical to steel processing and heavy industrial operations. You’ll work with large-scale equipment including hydraulics, pneumatics and processing equipment, ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency across our sites.
Hours suited to work/life balance - 6 am to 2 pm Monday to Thursday, finishing at 12pm on a Friday! Overtime available and paid at penalty rates.
Pay rate - $52.40 per hour plus 12% super + bonus + overtime with potential to grow your income as you build experience with us!
Your responsibilities will include:
- Perform fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment
- Diagnose mechanical failures and implement engineering solutions to maximise uptime and efficiency
- Carry out installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment both in workshop and on-site environments
- Conduct routine servicing, overhauls, and refurbishments of steel and processing plant and equipment
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to complete fabrication and assembly tasks
- Ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with InfraBuild standards
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry, or industrial engineering
- Strong expertise with valves, pumps, actuators, hydraulics, and heavy plant equipment
- Proven ability to diagnose faults, conduct overhauls, and implement preventative maintenance strategies
- Ability to interpret drawings and work independently or within a collaborative team
- Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
- Tickets and other licenses are highly regarded (Forklift, Working at Heights, Crane)
- Current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as needed
- Ability to lead teams and projects effectively, safety and to budget
