Occupational Health Specialist

About the role

Reporting to the HSEC Manager and as part of the Health, Safety, Environment and Community team, the site-based Health Specialist is a pivotal role in proving continuous improvement across our Liberty Bell Bay site. The role will provide expert support to operational and functional teams, ensuring compliance with standards, legal requirements, and effective risk mitigation. Collaborating with internal and external partners, you'll contribute to ongoing initiatives for a safe and healthy workplace, aligning with organisational objectives and fostering enduring health outcomes for employees.

 

Some responsibilities include:

  •     Providing expert support on health management aspects to operational teams in the context of workplace health and safety.
  •     Managing Injury Management and Readiness for Return-to-Work (RTW) processes in line with policy and legal requirements, supporting the dedicated RTW co-ordinator. 
  •     Designing and executing hygiene and health monitoring programs aligned with regulatory requirements and the operational risk profile, with support from Subject Matter Experts. 
  •     Initiate First Aid response and triage site-based workplace injuries with the support and engagement of external service providers e.g. Osteo, exercise physiologist and the Chief Medical Officer
  •     Maintaining processes for the collection and verification of hygiene data, conducting data analysis to identify compliance and hygiene issues.
  •     Executing GFG assurance activities over the Liberty Bell Bay risk profile, internal company standards, and health authorisations, working with operational teams to close identified gaps.
  •     Maintenance of the Health component of the WHS Management System
  •     Development of health and wellbeing initiatives that drive operational performance

About your experience

We are looking for a WHS professional with demonstrated experience managing a health or hygiene portfolio with extensive first aid experience, an allied health professional with extensive first aid experience with experience managing elements of an organisational management systems, a paramedic or APHRA Registered Nurse with heavy industry or mining experience. All candidates need to demonstrate strong communication skills, interpersonal finesse, and negotiation skill, with experience in the workplace setting working in heavy industry. 


Key qualifications include:

  •     Relevant tertiary qualifications in Safety, Occupational Health or related field (E.g. nursing, paramedics, OHS/WHS)
  •     Demonstrated relevant experience delivering health and safety leadership advice and support to resolve problems where a number of complex alternatives need to be addressed in a diverse organisation 
  •     Proven ability and success working in a compliance (or equivalent) environment 
  •     Proven expertise in injury management processes and return-to-work procedures e.g. triaging injuries, completing detailed injury reports and medical assessment forms
  •     Demonstrated high level of independence in solving problems and using judgement. Problems can be multi-faceted requiring detailed analysis of available options to solve operational, technical, or service problems
  •     Demonstrated management and interpersonal skills in managing, leading and motivating staff and resolving operational problems at all levels across a diverse organisation
  •     Demonstrated project management skills including a proven track record of continuous improvement and demonstrated examples of developing and implementing WHS & Wellbeing initiatives
  •     Proven ability to support the development implementation and monitoring of business plans including budgeting, cost control, performance management and monitoring and reporting on service outcomes 
  •     Proven ability and experience in contributing to a positive safety culture
  •     Proficient data analysis for identifying and managing compliance and hygiene issues.
  •     Facilitating hygiene monitoring programs.
