Refractory Operator

About the role

An opportunity currently exists for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the maintenance Refractory crew reporting to the Contract Services Supervisor. You will be a self-starter with proven compliance to safety systems and processes and can demonstrate your competence to manufacture and maintain refractory components such as ladles, wells, launders, skimmers and refractory consumables such as bridges & spouts.


Role Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensuring the state of refractory components is in such a condition that the quality of product is maintained;
  • Determining the cause of non-conforming plant and equipment to malfunction and implement corrective action;
  • Willingness to suggest and embrace improvements such as well-designed work; 
  • Establishing and maintaining housekeeping standards.


*Hours: 4 on, 4 off, 4 on, 2 off roster 6am – 4.30pm (10 hour days), or as required under the Enterprise Agreement.


You will have sound time management skills, excellent communication skills with the ability to work logically and methodically. This role requires you to do heavy physical work in a hot environment.  


You will also have:

 

  • Previous experience in a Refractory role, ideally in heavy industry
  • Boilermaker trade qualification is ideal, but not a must
  • Problem solving and basic statistical techniques
  • The ability to record work outputs with the aim to improving refractory maintenance processes to improve the overall quality of products
  • Ability to record and maintain raw material & finished product stock levels.
