Laboratory Technician

About the role

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, your role as a Laboratory Technician is to ensure the smooth operation of our laboratory during your shift, delivering a top-quality service in line with operational objectives.

 

Your responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, test, and report on various samples, such as furnace taps, environmental specimens, and raw materials, as necessary.
  • Execute preparation, testing, and reporting of export samples in accordance with Liberty Bell Bay and NATA requirements.
  • Maintain high operational standards, surpassing applicable laws, regulations, and quality requirements, with a strong focus on safety and environmental compliance.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Liberty Bell Bay Quality Management System as per company documentation.
  • Conduct raw material testing on a range of furnace input materials and furnace support materials and ensure timely reporting to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct wet lab chemical testing (pH, EC, TDS/TSS etc) and handle data entry and reporting, supporting analytical processes.
  • Participate in a range of laboratory administrative duties including, but not limited to, weekly checklists, scheduled calibrations and quality assurance. 

 

Roster: 4/4 (2 days & 2 Nights)

About your experience

We are seeking an individual who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and motivated. To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

 

  • A minimum of TAFE Certificate in Laboratory Techniques (preferable).
  • 1-2 years of laboratory experience, preferably in a heavy industry.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Understanding of NATA guidelines & GLP (Good Laboratory practice).
  • Ability to obtain Radiation Safety certification.
  • Familiarity with instrumental analytical techniques.
  • Knowledge of sampling and sample preparation techniques.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Problem-solving and basic statistical techniques.

 

This position is ideal for someone transitioning from a graduate role (depending on lab experience) or individuals with previous experience as a lab technician in heavy industry or geochemistry. If you understand the scientific method and are eager to learn and adapt to new challenges, you may be the perfect fit for this role.
