Remuneration Specialist

About The Role:

OneSteel Manufacturing is transforming one of Australia’s most iconic industrial operations. As we reshape our future workforce and operating model, this newly elevated role will lead the strategic design, governance and ongoing improvement of our remuneration and benefits frameworks across thousands of employees.


Reporting to the General Manager Human Resources, you will be the organisation’s specialist in total rewards, job architecture and remuneration governance. You will influence leaders, modernise our remuneration practices, and ensure our frameworks are fair, competitive and aligned to organisational goals.


This newly created position combines strategy, governance, analytics and advisory capability, ideal for a remuneration specialist ready to lead meaningful change at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the remuneration, benefits, and incentives strategy
  • Design and govern remuneration frameworks, policies and enterprise-wide job architecture
  • Oversee benchmarking, job evaluation and salary review processes
  • Provide expert advice on remuneration philosophy, internal equity and market competitiveness
  • Ensure remuneration practices comply with Australian legislation, Fair Work, industrial instruments and organisational policy
  • Lead modelling, analysis and workforce costing to support organisation design and workforce planning
  • Partner closely with HR, Finance, Payroll, Operations and senior leaders to ensure clarity and consistency
  • Strengthen HRIS and reporting capability relating to remuneration data integrity, analytics and audit readiness

About You:

You are an experienced remuneration specialist with strong analytical depth and a passion for building clarity in complex environments. You influence confidently at all levels and enjoy shaping frameworks that drive fairness, performance and organisational alignment.


You will bring:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in remuneration, benefits or related HR advisory roles, ideally within heavy industry, mining, resources or large complex organisations
  • Strong expertise in job evaluation methodologies (e.g., NRG, Korn Ferry, Mercer, Hays) and building job architecture frameworks
  • Deep understanding of Australian industrial relations systems, Enterprise Agreements, Award interpretation and remuneration compliance
  • Advanced analytical, modelling and costing capability, including budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience designing and governing STIP or incentive programs
  • Excellent communication skills, including preparing executive papers and leader guides
  • High integrity, strong stakeholder influence and the ability to drive change across varied environments
