IT Category Manager

About the role

The Category Manager Indirect – ICT (IT) is an integral part of the Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) Procurement leadership team and will lead all commercial aspects of the Indirect spend. 
 

The purpose of the role is to source, contract and manage suppliers, identify value (both price and non-price), efficiencies, continuous improvements in cost and service, new equipment, and performance reporting. 
 

* This is a hybrid role, working on average 3 days on site and 2 days from home. This role can be based out of Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney or Newcastle

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Engage with Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) business units to ensure alignment across compliance, sourcing, contract, and supplier management activities.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement strategies, operational plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Assist business stakeholders in defining product and service specifications that meet the needs and expectations of Stakeholders.

  • Lead the development and implementation of policies to enhance the quality of goods and services provided by the Supply Team, supporting the IT department.

  • Negotiate and establish supplier contracts, ensuring all necessary signatures, approvals, and authorizations are obtained and validated.

  • Contribute to the development and execution of category strategies to optimize supplier relationships and sourcing outcomes

  • Manage the contract life cycle, oversee vendor relationships, and maintain the Contract Database for all commercial elements.

  • Prepare and manage RFx documents, handle supplier proposals, and oversee the RFx process from opening to closing, while supporting supplier performance management and issue resolution.

 

 

Skills and experience:

 

  • 5+ Years commercial experience managing complex high spend relationships in an Information Technology Category role.

  • Proven experience and understanding of Information Technology, ideally in a Manufacturing or Mining setting.

  • Strong commercial skillset with demonstrated experience in negotiating and management complex large spend contracts

  • Proven ability in building & maintaining effective team relationships, with strong leadership and customer service skills

  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up to ensure accurate and complete contractual documentation.

  • A continuous improvement mindset

About Us

A member of the GFG Alliance group, Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide.  The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen as part of the GFG’s journey to be carbon neutral by 2030.
